Student Success Stories
Carmel Kalisky worked in the corporate accounting industry for many years — until 2009, when she was laid off. In that year, Carmel was faced with the challenge of being a single mother without any income. Receiving minimal support from her child’s father, and with no family to help, she attempted to find another job with comparable pay. After many unsuccessful job searches, she decided to go back to school.
She soon discovered Marinello Schools of Beauty, where she met and interviewed with Senior Admissions Advisor, Pauline Mixon, at the Concord campus. Mixon helpfully explained the many options that a Marinello education could provide, and provided information on Financial Aid and Career Placement. Carmel quickly enrolled, without hesitation.
From Carmel’s first day of school to her last, she excelled with high scores on all her tests, as well as in customer service. While at Marinello, 90 percent of the clients she performed services on returned to her for hair-, skin- and nail- services. While in Level 3, preparing to graduate and studying for the State Board Exam, she found herself as a mentor to her fellow students. Her classmates looked up to and aspired to learn more from her, picking her brain as to how they could emulate her success.
Since graduation, Carmel has passed the State Board Exam. She is now working at the Gina Khan Salon in San Francisco, where she started as an assistant and is quickly on her way to becoming a junior stylist.
