Eight High School Seniors Received Scholarships and Prizes Totaling $33,750 to Pursue Their Dream Career in the Beauty Industry

WHITTIER, Calif., June 24, 2011 – Marinello Schools of Beauty the leading West Coast beauty school, is proud to announce the winners of the third annual Raw Talent High School Beauty Scholarship program, designed to help high school students interested in a career in the beauty industry. Eight winners received scholarships and coveted prizes like iPads, totaling $33,750. Over the past three years, Marinello has donated more than $93,000 worth of scholarships to students starting their careers.

Aspiring cosmetology student Emily Walker from Los Angeles, California, is the first place winner who took home a $10,000 scholarship and an iPad. As a part of the application process, Emily created an innovative updo perfectly blending classic and contemporary hairstyles, which showcased her creativity and natural talent. As a child, Emily loved watching her mom braid hair for family members and was inspired by how it uplifted their spirits. Having attended high school in a low socioeconomic community, Emily hopes she can help others in her situation overcome challenges and accomplish their career goals. A $5,000 scholarship and an iPad were also awarded to Giselle Lopez from Cathedral City, CA, Chelsea Krise from Layton, UT, Yolanda Robinson from Concord, CA, and Marissa Mujica from Los Angeles-East, CA.

“We are so impressed with the applicants who participated in the third annual Raw Talent Scholarship program,” says Dr. Nagui Elyas, President and COO, Marinello Schools of Beauty. “The competition winners’ passion, creativity and dedication to a career in the beauty industry are inspirational and we are proud to have them as a part of the Marinello family.”

To compete in the Raw Talent High School Beauty Scholarship program, candidates visited their local Marinello Schools of Beauty campus location to complete either an updo for those interested in the Cosmetology program or a full make-up routine for those interested in the Esthetics course. Additionally, applicants submitted an essay about what they will do to make a difference in the beauty industry. The essays were reviewed by the High School Scholarship Committee at the corporate headquarters of Marinello Schools of Beauty and judged on content, spelling, syntax and grammar.
