Marinello Schools of Beauty Cosmetology Graduate Katie Woods Wins BehindTheChair.com’s New Hair Competition, RAW

Marinello Seaside Campus Alum And Her Team Take Home The $10,000 Top Prize

WHITTIER, Calif., June 27, 2012 – Marinello Schools of Beauty is proud to announce that Katie Woods, Marinello Schools of Beauty Seaside Campus Cosmetology Graduate, has won the first ever RAW hair show competition – presented by BehindtheChair.com – as a member of the P&G Salon Professional team. More than 2,000 guests filled the Mainstage Theater at Premiere Orlando on June 3, 2012 for the RAW competition to see seven teams of stylists compete for the top prize. Woods was a part of the P&G Salon Professional winning team, which was awarded a $10,000 prize. Woods and her teammates will also be featured on the cover of the September issue of BehindtheChair.com magazine.

“Winning the competition was such a rush and a realization that my dreams can and did come true,” says Woods. “It has inspired and motivated me to take my skills to the next level and put myself out there. I may be young, but my teammates and I are the future of the hair industry. Winning has really made me take the next step to furthering my career.”

Woods first heard about the RAW competition from Elaine Karamanos, Marinello Schools of Beauty’s Regional Career Development Manager, who recommended that Woods enter the competition. Woods jumped at the chance. From there, the P&G Salon Professional team worked closely to prepare for the competition before heading off to Orlando. As the youngest team competing in the RAW competition, the pressure was on the P&G Salon Professional team to prove their skills. With the help of three mentors – Diego Raviglione, Fabio Sementilli, and Carole Protat – the P&G Salon Professional team did just that, impressing the judges and the crowd, and taking home the top prize.

Although the competition is over, Woods is continuing to work closely with her RAW mentors to explore new opportunities to advance her career. Woods currently works at Supercuts in Salinas and plans to move to Los Angeles soon to explore her career options. She is also staying in close touch with teachers and staff at Marinello Schools of Beauty, and is an inspiration to many students who are starting out their career in the beauty industry. Woods’ message to these students is that with dedication and hard work, nothing is impossible. “Marinello is a great school and will prepare these students for a wonderful career in the beauty industry,” says Woods.
