The Discovery House 'Make-over Day' Adds Pampering To Recovery
DigitalJournal.com , July 22, 2014 - In a special day of pampering and morale-boosting for outpatient women in recovery, the Marinello Schools of Beauty joined forces with The Discovery House Drug and Alcohol Addiction Treatment Center for a free "Make-over Day." In a win-win event, Marinello students created an opportunity to be of service to the community, and The Discovery House clients had a chance to feel refreshed and renewed. They also gained some first-hand experience about career possibilities. "The students in our cosmetology program were able to provide a special service for the women in recovery, while at the same time demonstrating the career possibilities that a cosmetology education makes possible," said Elizabeth C. Garcia, education coordinator for Marinello School of Beauty, who stresses the importance of giving back to the community. "Our students were thrilled to work with the ladies from The Discovery House. They loved this group of women, and they made every effort to make than feel even more beautiful than they already are." Likewise, McKay Whiting, co-founder of The Discovery House, emphasizes the importance of an activity in recovery that will create a sense of self-worth in the women who are participating. "Our clients are working hard to improve their lives from the inside out," Whiting said. "An opportunity like this boosts their self-confidence and creates a positive mood. The pleasure and excitement of the women who participated was evident by the smiles on their faces. They all seemed to stand an inch or two taller as they came away with a new look. This fits right in with our desire to treat each of our clients with dignity and respect." Marinello School of Beauty, with locations nationwide, has a distinguished history of providing education for students who want to enter a professional career in the beauty industry. As a leader in the field of cosmetology, Marinello offers salon and spa services in California, Connecticut, Kansas, Massachusetts, Nevada and Utah. Student stylists, who are supervised by licensed instructors, provide quality cosmetology and manicuring programs at affordable prices. This event took place at the Van Nuys Marinello campus, 17635 Vanowen Street. The Discovery House offers outpatient services to clients as one of its Discovery Transitions programs in order to provide ongoing support in recovery. Special events, such as the "Make-over Day," offer options to people who are continuing to build confidence in living lives free of drugs and alcohol. In addition to educational opportunities, the outpatient program helps clients establish a support system through a variety of therapeutic options. Discovery Transitions believes in an individualized approach to recovery. From the day clients first enter The Discovery House program, they work together with the professional staff to devise a program of recovery suited to each person's individual needs. The outpatient programs provide structured meetings and ongoing encouragement. To view the full article click here http://www.digitaljournal.com/pr/2070724.
